Santa Fe

Santa Fe’s Resilience Journey

Santa Fe, in the northeast of Argentina, lies near the junction of two of South America’s major waterways, the Paraná River and the Salado River. Severe floods in 2003 and 2007 highlighted Santa Fe’s vulnerability, both in terms of physical devastation and the broad impact that such events have on poorer communities. Santa Fe has joined with provincial and national government agencies to improve the maintenance of its water management system. The city is working to improve communication, education, and community awareness around risk prevention.

City government recognizes that resilience plans must address poverty, including the disparity of the effects of flooding, and are concerned about how inequality can exacerbate violence and marginalization across the region, and increase vandalism of infrastructure.
