Bangkok’s canals hold great significance for the city’s development. Bang Mot Canal was historically a rich agricultural land but due to changes in the climate and landscape, the community had to adapt and pivot to a new economic opportunity – tourism.
Working together with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Catalyzing City Resilience Solutions program will promote Bang Mot as an emerging cultural and sustainable tourism destination to enhance their economic resilience while addressing other environmental issues.
The Bangkok SME Resilience Profile explores the relationship between the Bang Mot community, local businesses, and the canal environment which are all deeply intertwined. It also demonstrates the strength of the community to self-organize and collaborate.
In Bangkok, Resilient Cities Network is running the Catalyzing City Resilience Solutions program with support from the Citi Foundation to help the local economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. This recovery will catalyze urban resilience by empowering and strengthening a selection of critical small and medium enterprise (SMEs) to develop locally relevant solutions.
