Can Tho is located in the heart of the Mekong Delta. As a fast-urbanizing city with the most developed infrastructure in the region, the city must manage its waste carefully and sustainably to protect the river and its citizens.
Working together with the local government in Can Tho, the Catalyzing City Resilience Solutions program will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the city’s waste management sector – starting with waste segregation at source – to create a clean environment, promote recycling, and improve the working conditions of waste workers.
The Can Tho SME Resilience Profile investigates the practices of waste collection, transportation, and segregation SMEs whom the city relies on to maintain a clean environment. Municipal waste management involves a range of actors from informal waste pickers to composting companies, altogether, they represent one of the city’s leading sectors.
In Can Tho, Resilient Cities Network is running the Catalyzing City Resilience Solutions program with support from the Citi Foundation to help the local economy recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. This recovery will catalyze urban resilience by empowering and strengthening a selection of critical small and medium enterprise (SMEs) to develop locally relevant solutions.
