Frequently asked questions

What is the selection process for becoming a member of the Resilient Cities Network?

Any city or local government interested in joining R-Cities should write to us to discuss the specific opportunity. Application processes can be initiated with eligible candidates. New members must be confirmed by the cohort of existing members in the candidate’s region, as well as by the Global Steering Committee of CROs.

What do members receive from the Resilient Cities Network?

Participation in the network provides a new member with:

  1. A customized capacity-building program of trainings and advisory on resilience.
  2. Technical support for the development of a holistic Urban Resilience Strategy, project prioritization, and preparation.
  3. Support in the identification and training of a CRO and Resilience Office team.
  4. Network services, global communications, and access to all relevant multi-city programs and partnerships.

The specific elements of the program will be co-designed together with the member, to ensure they align with the priorities of both organizations.

What are the minimum requirements for new members?

Any local government wanting to join R-Cities must show strong political commitment from the highest local authority to comply with the following minimum criteria:

  • Create and institutionalize an Office of Resilience and a CRO position.
  • Develop a holistic, multi-stakeholder Resilience Strategy.
  • Implement resilient initiatives derived from the Resilience Strategy.
  • Participate in regional and global network activities.

Do members receive grants or pay membership fees?

Our network establishes strong partnerships with member cities’ local governments and their local stakeholders under the principle of co-funding. This means that any new member joining the network must be willing and capable to contribute with financial and other kinds of resources to guarantee its participation in network activities. For example, this can be done by funding the CRO position, by contributing financially to the studies, activities, and technical assistance needed to develop a Resilience Strategy, and/or by contributing to network activities such as convenings or knowledge products.

Member cities may have access to potential funding from the network partners in the context of specific thematic programs.

Members are not expected to pay membership fees.
