Penang State

Penang Island and Seberang Perai’s Resilience Journey

Penang Island and Seberang Perai are the two cities of Penang state, one of Malaysia’s most urbanized states.

Penang Island City Council and Seberang Perai City Council joined the Network in July 2023, through the support of Micron Foundation. The two City Councils will each appoint a Chief Resilience Officer and develop a joint Penang Resilience Strategy in collaboration with the Penang State Government.

This investment and partnership will support the state and cities’ efforts to institutionalize resilience within their governance system, advance urban resilience practices, and create opportunities for impact on the ground in support of their most vulnerable communities, through resilience planning and climate adaptation.
