Catalyzing City Resilience Solutions

R-Cities is partnering with Citi Foundation to support a cohort of cities in Asia Pacific to better source innovative urban resilience solutions from their local private sector, particularly SMEs that have been severely affected by the pandemic.

Leveraging experiences from our global network of cities, the Catalyzing City Resilience Solutions program will enable APAC member cities to experiment with innovative procurement processes for greater SME participation to bring solutions that provide multiple benefits to local communities.

Program Objective

Against the backdrop of a climate crisis that cannot be addressed by business-as-usual models, cities are also facing an economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There is increased pressure on local governments to spend budgets wisely while supporting activities that stimulate local economies and create jobs.

The main objective of this program is to spur innovation in solutions design and procurement, enabling cities to use resources efficiently and through better engagement with SMEs and local community.

Through this program, local government leaders will get an opportunity to explore early-stage procurement decisions that allow for innovative solutions to address immediate resilience challenges, while also lay the foundation for better long-term climate and equitable outcomes.

Program Components

The program consists of two main components:

  • Capacity building through peer learning and mentorship for city officials and local SME community.
  • Development and piloting of tools and methods that support collaborative innovation in project design and procurement solutions.

Up to eight cities in APAC will be selected for the program and the program experience in each city will be documented as case studies for dissemination through R-Cities’ global network of cities.
