Mar 2025

Jakarta, the bustling metropolis of Indonesia, and Semarang, the capital of Central Java, are both grappling with reliance on fossil fuels and impacts on air quality. Jakarta’s vulnerability to climate-related events, along with Semarang’s industrial and population growth underscore the urgent need for resilient and sustainable energy solutions. Urban Power aims to address these challenges and support both cities in building cleaner, more inclusive and resilient energy systems.

Semarang and Jakarta’s Urban Power Profiles provide an overview of each city’s power system context and challenges, key shocks and stresses impacting energy resilience projects and case studies.

Launched in 2021, the Urban Power program is designed to address critical urban energy challenges by offering a technical framework for identifying and tackling energy resilience issues. The program supports the development of clean energy projects that provide economic and environmental benefits and facilitates valuable learning opportunities for city governments.
