Co-creating a resilient future 2020-2021

The Resilient Cities Network (R-Cities) has released its 2020-2021 report, titled ‘Co-creating a resilient future’. This report charts the Network’s journey over the past two years, and its plans and aspirations for the year ahead.

Cities solve, cities deliver

Undoubtedly, 2020 and 2021 were challenging years for cities around the world. Faced with ever-increasing severity and frequency of climate change impact, a global Covid-19 pandemic and rising social inequities, cities were tested to solve and deliver for their residents.

Despite those challenges, our member cities have successfully delivered resilience initiatives, from neighborhood programs that help avoid development disparities, to improving access to nutritious food, to energy transition in public schools.

The Resilient Cities Network is created by cities, for cities.

Arm in arm with our member cities, R-Cities worked to further our mission of reducing vulnerability and improving well-being of 220 million urban dwellers around the world.

R-Cities has supported our members priorities through:

  • Creating opportunities and platforms for more than 5,000 participants – through our Cities on the Frontline webinar, Communities of Practice and coalitions – so city leaders can come together to solve problems, exchange knowledge and address key urban challenges.
  • Implementing 19 multi-city programs with over 50% of our member cities on our thematic pillars Climate Resilience and Circularity and cross-cutting themes of economic opportunity, equity and resilient recovery.
  • Launching the RCIFunds, igniting opportunities for investors to engage with cities that have the political will and scale to deploy innovations immediately. The RCIFunds has an initial goal of raising $10 million USD.
