Urban Eats

Globally, 150 million urban residents are food insecure, while cities generate 2.8 billion tons of organic waste each year.

We are calling on cities, private sector and investors to take urgent action to reduce and repurpose food waste around the world.

Urban Eats is a campaign launched by the Resilient Cities Network, which seeks to mobilize its network of nearly 100 cities to take action to improve food circularity and sustainable waste management. By looking at urban food security through a circular and resilience lens, cities can see the critical steps they should take to affect change.

The campaign calls on donors and investors to support the network and its cities to develop and implement circular food solutions towards more resilient urban food systems. The campaign will drive partnerships and garner city commitments to eventually develop and implement a circular and resilient food program.

Speaker Series | Urban Eats: Cities Tackling Food Resilience

The economic recession and supply chain-disruption caused by Covid-19, as well as the global fallout from the Ukrainian war have made global food security and food affordability a growing concern. These threats are further exasperated by embedded food access inequities and the rise in severe climate events affecting food systems. As major food consumers, cities have an opportunity to support the development of more resilient and regenerative food systems. Featuring speakers from Arup, DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency and State of Nuevo León.
