Cooler Homes
2,000+ residents benefit from cooler homes, climate awareness and brighter streets.
Residents of Rumah Pangsa face indoor temperatures above 29°C, putting strain on health and finances. Heat-reflective paint cools homes while a mural builds climate awareness and neighborhood pride.
Low-income flats are upgraded with heat-reflective paint to reduce indoor temperatures and improve comfort.
Community workshops turn cooling efforts into creative murals that brighten shared spaces.
The combined effort improves daily comfort while strengthening pride and connection among neighbours.
To build a picture of each community, the Resilience for Communities (R4C) program used risk mapping, open-data sources, expert interviews, community surveys and focus groups. This assessment used the Climate Resilience Measurement for Communities (CRMC) tool to assess community resilience to extreme heat and flooding - helping to identify priorities and design solutions.

Cooling homes and protecting health
Flats in Pantai Peringgit often trap heat, with indoor temperatures climbing above 29°C and putting residents at risk of heat stress. Applying reflective paint reduces heat absorption, making homes safer, healthier and more comfortable for exposed households.
Revitalising homes and refreshing image
Trapped heat in Pantai Peringgit leaves families facing higher cooling costs they cannot always meet. Upgrades make homes more comfortable and brighten shared spaces, easing daily pressures, reducing inequality and strengthening pride in the neighbourhood.
Building awareness and collective action
Climate risks can feel distant when they are not visible in daily life. A community-designed mural makes resilience visible, sparking conversations on heat and climate and bringing residents together around shared action.
